Endocrine disruptors and Homeopathy
Endocrine disruptors – What are they ?
Endocrine disruptors are natural or manmade chemicals which can mimic or disrupt the body’s endocrine system, which orchestrates vital body functions in a delicate and finely balanced system. This can cause health problems to both humans and animals.
Endocrine glands are found throughout the body and they produce hormones which control lots of different processess, such as ; growth, fertility, reproduction, metabolism, mood and immune function. Even minor disruptions to these hormone levels can effect development and biological function. They can mimic hormones and bind to their receptors which produces false signals in the body or they can block hormone receptors and stop natural hormones from delivering their message. They exert a subtle and long term effect.
Where do they come from?
They are found in food packaging, cosmetics, toys, carpets, flame retardants and pesticides.
It is very difficult in today’s world to eliminate all exposure but we can make informed choices about the products we buy and the food we eat to reduce risk to health.
Common examples
Bisphenol A ( BPA) and Pthalates are both found in plastic food containers, water bottles, childrens toys and some cosmetics.
Cosmetics : Parabens ( synthetic preservatives ), Triclosan ( a synthetic anti bacterial anti fungal agent ), fragrances in perfumes and lotions.
Household : PFA’s, Flame retardants used on bedding, furniture and carpets, non- stick coatings, water proof coatings.
Agriculture : pesticides
Effects on health
Low sperm count, infertility, developmental delays, diabetes, Thyroid dysfunction and obesity..
Can Homeopathy help?
The answer is yes.
Homeopathy is a wonderful medicine which can help your body to rebalance and detoxify. It is very effective in helping the hormonal system rebalance which can help with fertility issues. It can also help with a build up of heavy metals and other toxic substances by supporting your body’s own detox process using organ support remedies and well indicated remedies that match you individually.
What else can you do?
Stop using palstic where possible for food and drink storage. Buy food that is not packaged in plastic ( not easy, I know ). Eat organic fruit and veg – this is often too expensive but some fruits and vegatbles have higher amounts of pesticides ( you can find lists of these ) so maybe replace a few with organic.
Thinking about all of this can be overwhelming and we must keep a perspective on it. Worrying excessively will not be good for us either. It’s really a case of making changes where you can if it concerns you. Luckily we have an incredibly intelligent body which is capable of dealing with toxicity and is always trying to keep us in balance and therefore in health. In our modern world it just needs some extra help.
I couldn’t imagine not having homeopathy in my life!
